The Past Minute refers to the proverbial minute, e.g. "I haven't seen you in a minute". This can be any extended period of time from a week to a few years. It is the perfect unit of time for somebody who wants to write a blog, but also has a bunch of shit to do.
Although finding this conveniently irresponsible unit of time took some thinking, the subject matter for this project was clear from the start: music. I'll follow Spotify's "related artists" for hours, listen to one-dollar vinyl records from the thrift store, and find artists on Soundcloud with under one hundred plays. The Past Minute will be a place where I share my finds. Having read plenty of music blogs and written for the Arts & Entertainment section of The Triangle, I know how to explore an artist or record.
I will share three albums on every post:
- New Music - A fresh, recent release that I love
- Ten From Back Then - Any favorite that stands the test of time
- Classic You Should Know - If you don't know it, consider yourself cultured. If you know it, learn about its history & importance and have a good story next time someone brings it up
Music from all eras and genres will be featured. While I'm currently most interested in R&B, Hip Hop, and Electronic, I also listen to classic rock, punk, alternative (whatever that means), soul, jazz, classical, and everything in between. I especially enjoy albums that don't quite fit into any of these genres. The banner above is a taste of some of my favorite music.
In addition to the standard album-featuring "minute" posts, there will be short-form posts every once in a while which delve into current topics in music. Check out the first post featuring Herrick & Hooley, thestand4rd, and Miles Davis, subscribe, and I'll see you in a minute.
